Digital impression is one of the latest innovation in dental technology. The University of Zurich introduced the original CEREC machine in 1980. It was the first to use digital impression technology to scan and view a patient's oral cavity. One of the great challenges in scanning an impression is the technology's is ability to see inside the voids that the teeth have created in the impression material. Many previous model scanners are unable to see inside these voids because the angle between the light source and the camera is too high. In order to view the clear impressions, the manufacturers decreased the angle between the light source and the camera, by giving them a better view inside those cavity. Due to their size, intraoral scanners have highly condensed optics and adapt quite well to scanning impressions.
The Digital Smile Design Concept (DSD) is a multi-step treatment and the planning protocol was first created by Dr. Christian Coachman, a Brazilian Dentist and Ceramist. DSD can be utilized in imaging technology, resin model .It is a computer software to generate a comprehensive picture of the patient’s teeth and oral structures. This innovative imaging system uprise the pre-treatment experience and allows for higher dental precision and accuracy than ever before. The primary benefits of utilizing the DSD Studio is the ability to help patients to visualize the outcome of their cosmetic or reconstructive procedure. DSD is a great way to amplify the planning of both simple and complex procedures, from cosmetic bonding to a Smile Face lift.
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that deals with better teeth and jaws that are positioned improperly. Hooked teeth and teeth that do not fit together correctly are harder to keep clean, and those are at risk of being lost early due to tooth decay and periodontal disease, and it may cause extra stress on the chewing muscles that can lead to headaches. Teeth that are crooked will not be in right place and it also devaluate from one's appearance. The main advantage of this treatment also include, healthier mouth, a more pleasing appearance, and teeth that appear to be long lasting . Orthodontics specifically focuses on the alignment of the teeth and the dental arches, especially the maxilla and the mandible. The main practice for this specialty includes diagnosis, prevention, interception, and correction of malocclusion and other abnormalities of the developing or mature orofacial structures.
A dental 3D image allows dentist to view tooth anatomy from different angles. 3D scan helps to gain a better view of bone structures, such as adjacent root positions, in order to locate canals and root fractures, as well as it provide the ability to measure the anatomical structures more accurately. These 3D scan also carry a wide range of identification, treatment and planning, making them distinctly flexible. As techniques become more advanced, 3D models become more accurate. Thus the technology becomes more readily available, The first method of using this technique called slicing. Thus, the method is used more often in dental diagnosis, treatment planning and construction of dental appliances such as dental implants, orthodontics, denture bases and bite guards. The second method is used is called CNC milling. In this case, the complete digital image is transferred to a milling machine. Thus the machine then dice the new 3D physical model using the material.

Nano dentistry an emerging field with significant potential to yield new generation of clinical tools, materials and devices for oral health care. Nanotechnology is integrated into dentistry it gives rise to a new stream called nano dentistry. The nano dentistry is currently categorized into bottom up approach and top down approach and hence it has various applications of nanotechnology ranging from the nano robots, Nano topograph and Nano encapsulation to its varied use in dental materials and implants. Nanodentistry is expected to make it possible to maintain near-perfect oral health through the use of nano materials, bio engineering and nano robotics. The discovery of Nano dental materials such as Nano powders and Nano composites reinforced with Nano fillers are the most rapidly developing group of materials with excellent prospective for application in the field of dentistry.
Oral Microbiology & Pathology is a branch of dentistry which deals with the diseases of oral and Para oral structures. There more than 700 species of microorganisms are present and have been identified so far. Some of the predominant groups present in the mouth include Streptococcus, Neisseria, Veillonella, Actinomyces and other obligate anaerobes. It also provides a detail understanding about the diagnosis and the development of rational treatment. Oral microbiology is the study of the microorganisms of the oral cavity including oral soft tissues mucous membranes and the teeth, jaws, and salivary glands.
Oral cancer is defined as the uncontrollable growth of cells that invade and cause damage to surrounding tissue in oral cavity. The term oral cancer includes cancers of the oral cavity and the pharynx. Oral cancer occur anywhere in the mouth, on the surface of the tongue, the lips, inside the cheek, in the gums, in the roof and floor of the mouth, in the tonsils, and in the salivary glands. It can be life threatening if not diagnosed and treated early. Oral cancer also known as mouth cancer, is a type of head and neck cancer and is any cancerous tissue growth located in the oral cavity. It may arise as a primary lesion originating in any of the tissues in the mouth, by metastasis from a distant site of origin, or by extension from a neighboring anatomic structure, such as the nasal cavity. Alternatively, the oral cancers may originate in any of the tissues of the mouth, and may be of varied histologic types are teratoma, adenocarcinoma which is derived from a major or minor salivary gland, lymphoma from tonsillar or other lymphoid tissue, or melanoma from the pigment-producing cells of the oral mucosa.
Forensic Dentistry can be explained in many ways. Forensic dentistry plays a major role in body identification. It requires an interdisciplinary knowledge of dental science. The important role of the forensic odontologist is to built a person’s identity like Teeth, with their physiologic variations and persons abnormal condition. Those information should be recorded and that remains throughout life and forever as a evidence. The application on dental knowledge to those criminal and civil laws that are enforced by police agencies in a criminal justice system. Forensic dentists are involved in assisting investigative agencies to identify recovered human remains in addition to the identification of whole or fragmented bodies. The evidence that may be derived from teeth is the age (in children) and identification of the person to whom the teeth belong. This is done using dental records including radiographs, ante-mortem (prior to death) and post-mortem photographs and DNA.
Dental technology is advancing at a tremendous rate, with new composite materials, equipment, and computer software introduced continually. There are many new methods and technique have been implemented in dental practice. Innovation and advancement in the dental field helps the people to know more about the dental practice. The main aim of this oral practice studies is to promote or improve research in all fields of dental and related sciences and technology, to encourage improvements in methods for the prevention and treatment of oral and dental disease, and to improve the oral health of the public through research and dental hygiene.
Dental fractures are referred as dental trauma or injury in oral cavity nearby soft tissues such as the lips, tongue, etc. It is more common in younger people and more frequent in male than females. Fractures are classified into different types. People with cracked tooth syndrome or irritation, when biting the food, or when teeth are exposed to hot or cold temperatures. The pain or discomfort will not be constant, as with cavity. Among those, many people with cracked tooth syndrome have symptoms for several months because it’s one of the most difficult dental problems to diagnose. There are many different methods to diagnosis and detect the cracks present in the oral cavity. Some of the methods, are first is to check the complete oral examination, dental history, radio-graphy and the use of a fiber optic hand piece . People with a history of a cracked tooth are possible to have other dental related disease or either at the same time or may be in the future.
The dental pulp is the part which is present in the center of a tooth. It is made up of living connective tissue and cells. It is called odontoblasts. The dental pulp is a segment of the dentin-pulp complex . The pulp act as a neuro vascular bundle central to each of the tooth. It compose of three different classes, central pulp chamber, pulp horns and radicular canals. The Pulp acts as a security alarm system for a tooth. If there any slight decay in tooth structure the dentin may not get that alarm signal ,but as the dentin gets exposed, either due to dental caries or trauma, sensitivity starts and it starts signaling.
Dental Pharmacology is the branch of pharmacology which deals with the study of drugs for the treatment of oral diseases. Some of the common drugs used in dental pharmacologys are antibiotics, analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs and anti-periodontitis agents. It also includes oral hygiene, obtudents, Mummifying agents, drugs which are used for cavity and periodontal disease. It describes the mode of action and the stages induced in general anesthesia, the classification, action, and the therapeutics of analgesics. Each drug works in a different way to address whatever the dental issue may be. Analgesics are drugs that are used to get pain under control. Antibiotics are used in healthcare to treat bacterial infections. Anti-inflammatory drugs are used reverse active inflammation .
A dental implant known as a surgical component uesd to positioned the artificial tooth root that is placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge. Dental implants is mainly for the people who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, any injury, or some other reason. There are different types of dental implats are available. Tooth Implants/dental implant is an artificial tooth root that are placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridges. A dental implant material is made up of a titanium post it is surgically positioned into the jawbone below the gum line that allows your dentist to mount replacement of teeth or across the area. Dental implants also have some benefits in general like oral health, oral surgery and oral hygiene because they do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like traverse layer inside the oral cavity.
The Advanced Dental Research (ADR) is defined as the analysis, detection, prevention and treatment for both surgical and nonsurgical diseases , conditions of the oral cavity, and maxillofacial area. The Advanced Dental Technology provides an advanced level of education in dental technology and related research in dental science.
